Esther is a PhD Research Student researching on the topic: Modelling and Analysis of Sustainable Energy for Developing Countries: Case of Malawi, under the supervision of Dr Paul Rowley and Dr Richard Blanchard. She anticipates using Bayesian network and spatial modelling approaches to explore and evaluate the potential of renewable energy in aiding sustainable development in Malawi, and hence develop a model strategy and a Toolkit for stakeholders that will be useful for renewable energy planning and analysis for sustainable development.

Esther is a PhD Research Student at The Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology (CREST), which is within the School of Electronic, Electrical & Systems Engineering at Loughborough University and is an awardee of the 2013/14 Commonwealth Scholarship.

She obtained her MSc (Energy Studies) in 2009 from the University of Otago, New Zealand and BSc (Electrical Engineering) in 2002 from the University of Malawi. Prior to that, she trained and worked as an Electrical and Electronics Technician.

Esther is on study leave from her current employer; University of Malawi where she has worked as Lecturer since 2003.  In addition to teaching, she also served as the Deputy Head of Department (2011-2013); Coordinator of City and Guilds Technician Courses (2011-2013) and College Warden in the female hostels (2005-2007).

For extra-curricular; Esther is a member of  the Malawi Institution of Engineers (MIE) and served as  Council Member, member of Forum for African Women Educationalist-Malawi Chapter (FAWEMA), and mentor and role model for women in and aspiring to enrol in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers.
