Location: MBG.0.L01, Garendon Wing

Abdul Muhaimin Mahmud is a PhD research student at the Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology and works under supervision of Dr Richard Blanchard and Professor Ralph Gottschalg.

He is investigating the impact of the rural electrification program using solar PV hybrid systems that were installed at a total of 162 rural schools in Sabah, Malaysia. The impact is to be measured within the following objectives.

i) To determine the effectiveness of the rural electrification program using solar PV hybrid system at rural schools in Sabah, Malaysia in term of social and education.

ii)To investigate, test and analyse the solar PV hybrid system performance.

iii) To conduct computer simulation of the solar PV hybrid system that to analyse the design parameters with the actual operation parameters.

iv) To assess the economical aspect of the program using the computer simulation analysis.

  • Title of PhD: Impact study on rural electrification program using solar PV-diesel hybrid system for rural school in Sabah, Malaysia
  • Funding Source: Public Service Department of Malaysia
  • PhD Supervisor: Dr Richard Blanchard
  • Second PhD Supervisor: Professor Ralph Gottschalg

Abdul Muhaimin Mahmud is currently a PhD research student with the Centre for Renewable Energy System Technology at Loughborough University.

He graduated from University of Oldenburg in 2010 with MSc in Renewable Energy and BEng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from MARA University of Technology Malaysia in 2003.

He was an engineer at the Public Works Department of Malaysia from 2003 to September 2013 and currently is on study leave for his PhD studies. He involved in development projects in the field of renewable energy system and energy efficiency in Malaysia.

He has professional experience in renewable energy for rural electrification program as well as on-grid system, specifically in solar photovoltaic hybrid system. He was a committee member for Work Group Solar PV for Standards & Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) from 2010 to 2013.

In the last five years he attended several professional certification courses such as ISPQ Off-Grid PV system designer and installer and Green Building Index Facilitator Course.
