Assessing pain in palliative care

Presented By Laura Jenkins
  • 1-2.30 pm (a DARG event)
  • B1.14 Brockington Building

About this event

"This research focuses on episodes in which doctors are questioning a patient about their pain. I will be bringing video data collected as part of the VERDIS project, which examined decision-making in end-of-life care. The consultations take place in a hospice setting, involving experienced palliative care doctors, their patients, and accompanying persons. The analysis so far has drawn on the dimensions of questions and answers in medical settings, as described by Heritage (2010). The DARG session will focus on question design, and its impact on the trajectory of the consultation.

Transcripts will be available on the day and will need to be returned at the end of the session.

Please note: These materials involve people who have, and are talking about terminal illness. They can be distressing to hear, see and work with."

This is event is part of the Discourse and Rhetoric Group (DARG) events series.
