Developing a knowledge management strategy to improve organisational efficiency

  • Loughborough experts support ETI’s evolving knowledge management strategy

The Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) – hosted by the Midlands Energy Consortium and a key tenant of LUSEP – brings together academia, industry and the government to accelerate the development of new low carbon technologies.

The effective capture, storage and dissemination of knowledge are vital to the Institute’s success.

Recognising the potential of enhanced knowledge management (KM) practices to improve efficiency, ETI drew on the expertise of Loughborough’s Dr Gillian Ragsdell and her team.

They embarked on an organisational knowledge audit to map critical knowledge flows and identify areas for improvement.

The work has included input to the development of a KM strategy to support ETI’s evolving knowledge management processes, a review of existing and required resources and policies, and ongoing support for staff employed across the organisation.

Key to the project’s ongoing success will be the work of a part-funded PhD researcher – whose findings will inform the development of an improved knowledge flow both within the organisation and with key partners and stakeholders – as well as on-going support via a consultancy agreement.

Impacts

  • Researching competitive environments

A PhD researcher is part-funded by the ETI (October 2012-Sept 2015) to investigate knowledge sharing in competitive environments

  • Consultancy

To ensure the on-going development of ETI’s KM strategy, Dr Ragsdell provides expert consultancy support
