Professor John Corner is Head of the School of Politics and Communication Studies at the University of Liverpool.
He was educated at Ruskin College, Oxford and Christs’s College, Cambridge.
His main teaching and research interests are in the areas of broadcast journalism, documentary, media audiences, political communication and cultural analysis.
He has written widely in books and journals and is an editor of the journal Media, Culture and Society.

His co-edited collection Communication Studies ( Arnold 1980) was one of the first interdisciplinary texts for teaching across issues of media, language and image.

and the co-edited International Media Research: A Critical Survey ( Routledge 1996).

In 1998, Edinburgh University Press published his collected articles, Studying the Media: Problems of Theory and Method.

Journal articles include items in the Journal of Communication, Screen, Media, Culture and Society, and the European Journal of Communication. Articles in collections include items in all three editions of J. Curran and M.Gurevitch’s Mass Media and Society (Arnold 1991, 1996, 2000) as well as many other major volumes.

From 1992-96 he was Visiting Professor at the University of Stockholm and he has been a visiting speaker in America, Australia and many part of Europe.

His current work includes a history of the major British current-affairs programme, World in Action and explorations in the mediation of political culture as well continuing work in documentary studies.
