Call for Papers - Vulnerable Children and Youth Studies

SPECIAL ISSUE: CARE MATTERS: TRANSFORMING LIVES – IMPROVING OUTCOMES

To be published Spring 2009

Vulnerable Children and Youth Studies is an essential peer-reviewed journal analysing psychological, sociological, health, gender, cultural, economic, and educational aspects of children and adolescents in developed and developing countries. This international publication forum provides a much-needed interdisciplinary focus on vulnerable children and youth at risk, specifically in relation to health and welfare issues, such as mental health, illness, disability, abuse, neglect, institutionalisation, poverty, orphanhood, exploitation, war, famine, and disaster. Gathering scholarly work from a multisectoral field, the journal offers critique, analysis, and insight with regard to vulnerable children and youth in a range of settings, and aims to be widely consulted for cutting-edge research as well as effective policy and intervention.

The Care Matters Special Issue, due for publication in Volume 4, Issue 3 (2009), will draw together original papers that focus on effective policies and programmes to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and young people. The Special Issue will
focus on issues of particular relevance to children and young people in care; however papers covering issues of significance to all children in need will be considered. Papers covering theoretical or empirical research, policy analysis or practice
development will all be considered, as long as they are of international relevance. Papers should cover one of the of the following themes: improving placement stability; addressing children’s mental health and behavioural problems; improving educational outcomes; improving transitions from care to adulthood; improving assessment, planning and recording systems in child welfare. All papers will be independently peer reviewed.

Papers should be submitted online at the Vulnerable Children and Youth Studies Manuscript Central site: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ac-phm-vcy.

Authors MUST precede their manuscript title with the caption “CARE MATTERS” during the online submission process to nsure the manuscript is considered for the special issue. Papers should not exceed 2,500 words.
