Sam graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2001 with a BA(hons.) Social Sciences and then went on to The University of Nottingham where she obtained a Masters in Critical Theory and Cultural Studies. She later achieved a first class Masters in Research Methods from Nottingham Trent University.

After working for a SureStart local programme, Sam worked as a Research Assistant at Nottingham Trent on the evaluation of a number of SureStart local programmes.

Sam joined the centre in 2007, to work on the Costs and Outcomes programme of research. Her work is currently focused on exploring the costs and outcomes of services for children in need, and is leading on the field work element of this research. Much of her time is spent gathering data from social care professionals, regarding the amount of time they spend on various activities to support children in need, along with finance and child level data from the four participating research sites. As part of the Costs and Outcomes programme, Sam is also working on the study to calculate costs of short break provision.
