Background

Joe has worked at CCFR since the Centre was established in 2001. He has worked on a number of projects across the Centre's various research streams:

• Looking after children: cohort studies
  
  
• Carer’s assessments in Nottinghamshire: content, processes
  and outcomes
  
  
• Evaluation of Leicester city county 'Parenting and Cognitive Behaviour Project'

Joe's main programme of research has been on social and therapeutic horticulture for vulnerable adults and he has worked on several studies in this area:

• Growing together: literature review and bibliographical database on social and therapeutic horticulture
  
  
  
• Growing together: promoting social inclusion, health and well being for vulnerable adults through the use of gardening and therapeutic horticulture

Research interests

Joe's interests include the use of social and therapeutic horticulture (STH) and small scale agriculture for promoting health and social inclusion for vulnerable adults. His other interests include the benefits of the natural environment and the use of green space.

Current projects

• A feasibility study of the use of a randomised controlled trial of therapeutic horticulture for people with mental health problems in the UK
