Emily has a MA in Social Research and BSoc.Sc. in Social Policy (University of Birmingham) and Cert. International Child Law and Cert. Judicial Review and Social Welfare Law (Leicester University). Emily has worked at CCFR since the Centre was established in 2001 and since then has undertaken a body of research funded by the Department for Health and the Department for Children, Families and Schools to inform policy and practice and promote positive outcomes for children and families. Studies have produced and continue to produce important findings about the process of decision-making and its consequences. They have been influential in informing policy on adoption, permanence and safeguarding children.
Emily currently directs projects in the Outcomes for vulnerable children and Promoting the well being of children and young people research streams.
Emily also manages a responsive stream of work for the Department for Education to address key policy issues.
Emily also co-ordinates the International Network on Transitions to Adulthood from Care (INTRAC).
Safeguarding children and the interation between different professional groups in the decision-making process influencing life pathways and outcomes; innovative methodologies to ensure that service users' views inform policy and practice; and comparative research; research governance and ethics.
