Exploring the costs of adoption
Department for Children, Schools and Families
As part of our exploring costs and outcomes research programme we are conducting two small, focussed pieces of work designed to further extend the costing methodology used in the Cost Calculator for Children’s Services to make it possible to more accurately calculate the costs of adoption processes and adoption overheads.
We are currently developing the unit costs for six adoption processes that underpin the placement of children for adoption from the point of the best interest decision to the completion of post adoption support. The work builds on and takes further the unit costs developed by Selwyn and colleagues (2006) and is intended to provide robust unit costs of adoption for those authorities implementing the CCfCS.
