Professional / academic background
Ross Friel graduated from his degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Management (BEng) at Loughborough University in 2005. Ross then went on to study and graduate in Engineering Design (post graduate MSc) at Loughborough University in 2006. His post graduate research involved creating bio-mimetic bone implants via Selective Laser Sintering (SLS).
Ross completed his PhD at Loughborough in 2011 and his research involved embedding shape memory alloy fibres into aluminium matrices using the Ultrasonic Consolidation (UC) process. Ross is now involved with knowledge transfer between the University and industry as well as working on the “Smart Material structures by Ultrasonic Consolidation” project.
