Additive Manufacturing Research Group

About Us

AMRG showroom

AMRG activity spans both fundamental and applied research focused on additive manufacturing (AM) process and materials development, software and business management.

The research group was formerly known as the Rapid Manufacturing Research Group. However, in August 2009 it was renamed the "Additive Manufacturing Research Group" to be in line with and support international efforts to adopt a single term for describing this new method of manufacturing. The term "additive manufacturing" has also been adopted by the new ASTM body that is investigating standards and procedures for Additive Manufacturing Technologies.

The AMRG engages in projects ranging from large scale collaborative research, funded by bodies such as the TSB and EPSRC, through to individual short term applications research, supported directly by additive manufacturing systems vendors and technology users.

Within the AMRG, the Additive Manufacturing Industrial Resource Centre also provides technology transfer, industrial training and consultancy services to a membership of leading global manufacturing companies.

In addition to knowledge dissemination through peer reviewed publications and books, the AMRG also plays host to the international conference on additive manufacturing held each year at Loughborough University.
