Construction expert to deliver guest lecture programme

John Oliver, a leading figure in the construction industry is set to deliver a guest lecture programme at Loughborough University’s School of Civil and Building Engineering.

John is a Visiting Professor at the School and the current Chairman of the European Construction Institute (ECI), a network of organisations focussed on delivering construction excellence.

He is Project Portfolio Director for BG Group plc and has a proven track record in the delivery of complex capital programmes and extensive experience of mega-scale construction projects gained in the international oil and gas, energy, transportation and aviation sectors.  In his current role as Development Director of Kazakhstan Petroleum Operating Bv, he is accountable for a $15bn project to develop the next phase of production of gas and gas condensate from the huge Karachaganak gas field in Kazakhstan; a field which yielded a record 140 million barrels of oil equivalent in 2012.

Through the ECI he has also been influential in the development of best practice within the construction industry.

The first lecture will focus on the concept of governance in engineering and construction projects and how this is reflected in operational project environments.  His presentation will draw on practical examples and cases to illustrate how governance structures should be created for very large complex projects.

Professor Tony Thorpe, Dean of the School of Civil and Building Engineering comments: “We are delighted to welcome John to the School and we are very much looking forward to his lecture series.  This provides an excellent opportunity to hear from a highly skilled and experienced professional at the leading edge of project delivery.”

The lecture will take place on Friday 29 November at 10.30am in KG.1.07 in the Keith Green Building on the University campus.  Anyone interested in attending should contact j.lakha@lboro.ac.uk
