Tuesday 24 June 2014 | 9.00am–2.00pm

State-of-the-art e-infrastructure to accelerate business innovation

HPC Midlands – Loughborough University’s supercomputing centre for industry – is one year old.

Part of the UK’s e-infrastructure, HPC Midlands is helping to create the eco-system for future growth and innovation. Capable of processing vast quantities of data, high performance computing acts as a catalyst across a range of sectors including engineering, finance, manufacturing, life sciences, space and transport.

You are invited to come and meet other businesses that are using modelling and simulation software to improve their competitiveness, learn more about HPC Midlands and find out how you can benefit from its facilities.

Join senior representatives from industry to find out

  • What access to a supercomputer has meant to large and small businesses
  • How opportunities for flexible, trusted, on-demand supercomputing could help your organisation
  • How easy, secure, flexible and affordable it can be to access your local supercomputing facilities, and how you could run a test to understand the business case for using HPC
  • How other businesses have overcome complex engineering problems to develop new products and services
  • What funding is available to help take forward new innovation  or create new capabilities in your business

This event is most relevant to

  • Designers and engineers using modelling and simulation software including ABAQUS, CFX, FLUENT, and Nastran, and working with FEA or CFD
  • Researchers in industry working with very large data sets or with calculation-intensive requirements
  • Those seeking to build new value with Big Data

About HPC Midlands

About HPC Midlands

HPC Midlands is a £1m supercomputing centre which builds on the high performance computing expertise at Loughborough University and the University of Leicester.

The key component of HPC Midlands is a new 3,000 core Sandy Bridge based supercomputer which is housed at Loughborough and available to industrially relevant research as a cloud service via the JANET network.

High performance computing enables the processing of immense quantities of data to solve advanced computation problems across all sectors. Undertaking calculation-intensive tasks, high performance computing can be used to

  • Complete large-scale research projects
  • Conduct simulations and modelling of complex processes
  • Create computer visualisations that explain research results
  • Develop and redesign products
  • Enhance production and delivery processes
  • Form and analyse large datasets
  • Perform consumer trend monitoring, searching or profiling
  • Store large amounts of data for future analysis

HPC Midlands is working with businesses of all sizes as well as researchers to make this prestige facility a crucial tool for driving innovation.
