Conference will examine the twists and turns of the 2017 General Election campaign

Political strategists, journalists and academics will be gathering at the Loughborough University London campus on July 19 to discuss how the media covered the 2017 General Election campaign.

The conference will bring together those closely involved in the election to share their experiences of what turned out to be a campaign full of twists and turns.

Loughborough University’s Centre for Research in Communication and Culture (CRCC) will also share the findings of its news audit of the election at the event.

Confirmed participants so far include Ric Bailey, the BBC’s Chief Political Advisor;  Gaby Hinsliff, a Guardian columnist and former political editor of the Observer; Michael Jermy, Director of News at ITV; Greg Cook, Political Strategist at the Labour Party; Damian Lyons Lowe of Survation; and Gideon Skinner from Ipsos MORI.

Professor Dominic Wring, organiser of the event and part of the CRCC media analysis team, said: “This conference provides a unique and valuable opportunity for those most intimately involved in campaigning, reporting and polling in the 2017 election to come together and reflect on this most momentous of events.

“It will be especially interesting to hear what the various participants have to say about a result that once again confounded the many expert pundits who predicted a very different outcome.”

Places are still available at the free event, which this year is being sponsored by the Loughborough University Institute of Advanced Studies. To book a place click here.
