Loughborough University launches Rio 2016 website

With two Loughborough graduates already selected as part of Team GB, Loughborough is expecting to have an extremely strong presence in Brazil next summer.

After podium finishes at the Rio Test Event and the World Triathlon Grand Final in Chicago, Vicky Holland has secured her spot as one of the three female triathletes going to the Olympic Games. Joining her on Team GB is slalom canoeist and 2008 Olympian Fiona Pennie.

The British men’s and women’s hockey teams have also secured their 2016 Olympic berths, and whilst there will almost certainly be Loughborough presence, the final squad has yet to be announced. Like most sports, this announcement won’t come until much closer to 5th August, when the Olympic Games get underway.

On the Paralympic side, Loughborough won 6 medals at London 2012, but could well win more in Rio. Subject to selection alumnus Dan Greaves will be going for an incredible fifth straight Paralympic medal in the F44 discus, which would mark the end of a sterling Paralympic career.
