The WHOLE EARTH? exhibition, organised by the Hard Rain Project and National Union of Students, will be exhibited at Loughborough University next week.

WHOLE EARTH? is based on the idea that today’s young people, students and universities can help lead society to a more sustainable future. It is designed to help stimulate the creativity of those getting involved, making a significant contribution to global society. Students and tutors are invited to articulate the kind of world they want to live in and share their research and ideas about how to create a safe and secure society.

The exhibition is being launched simultaneously in the UK, Australia and Scandinavia.  From Loughborough it will be shipped to United International University in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as part of a wider global roll out.

Venues will be connected via a YouTube channel so that communications can take place across campuses and continents. Responses, opinions and comments about WHOLE EARTH? can be uploaded via YouTube or by tweeting #studentearth.

The exhibition is free and open to the public and the local community is invited on to campus to view the display.  

The challenge areas covered by the exhibition are: The Arts, The New Economies, Media Studies, Political Science, Science & Technology, Finance, Philosophy, Fashion, Agriculture, History, Engineering, Business, Biology, Geography, Teacher Training and Religious Studies.

The exhibition at Loughborough is being hosted by the University's Sustainability Team. Sustainability Manager, Jo Shields said: “This exhibition is timely as Country leaders have recently gathered at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit to adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: 17 universal goals to tackle poverty, inequality and climate change. 

“WHOLE EARTH? is providing LU with an opportunity to consider how we might meet some of the goals adopted. The exhibition, which focuses on the challenges ahead, opens up opportunities to get our staff and students talking about reducing poverty and inequality, moving towards environmental sustainability and promoting social justice. 

“No one is immune to the problems that affect everyone on this planet we call home. We are all interconnected and WHOLE EARTH? provides an opportunity for us to reflect on how we might move towards an inclusive, sustainable and resilient future for people and planet.”

The exhibition will be on campus between 5 October and 1 November at Shirley Pearce Square.
