Loughborough University to sponsor Indian College League cricket tournament

Loughborough University is delighted to be joining forces with The Chopras to provide an exciting new cricket tournament for some of India’s leading colleges.

Bringing together colleges in Delhi’s National Capital Region (NCR) from 5th to 7th October, the Indian College League tournament aims to provide young Indian students with an exciting sporting opportunity, similar to the experiences many Loughborough students benefit from.

Working with The Chopras, a leading education company in India, and Thomas Cook (India) who have also agreed to sponsor this one-of-a-kind cricket event, the tournament may well be the starting point for one of tomorrow’s cricketing stars.

Taking place at the Jasola Sports Complex in Dehli, a total of eight teams from different colleges will participate in the Twenty20 tournament with the organisers providing whites for all of the teams. The colleges taking part in the event are Khalsa College, PGDAV College, Jamia Milia Islamia, Venkateshwar College, Kirorimal College, Delhi College of Engineering, Sri Ram College of Commerce and Atmaram Sanatan Dharam College.

Of the project Professor Robert Allison, Loughborough University Vice-Chancellor, said:

“Loughborough University is delighted to sponsor the Indian College League tournament this year.  We recognise the prestige of the University of Delhi and their students, many of whom have studied with us here in the UK. I thank The Chopras for their support in arranging this fantastic tournament. We wish all participating teams the best of luck. May the best team win!”

Naveen Chopra, Founder and Chairman of The Chopras, added:

“We are quite excited about the event as it will give the students of top Delhi colleges, a common platform to engage with each other. Cricket has always been the favourite sport of the Indian youth hence we decided to organise this event along with Loughborough University. We are confident that the Indian College League will be a great platform for players of the sport, an ideal sporting event for students to converge at and a thumping success.”
