PhD student shortlisted for Materials Innovation Award

PhD Textiles student, Laura Morgan, has been shortlisted for the Arts Foundation Materials Innovation Award supported by The Clothworkers' Foundation.

The award was set up to identify enterprising individuals in the UK who reflect and encourage new ways of thinking.

Textiles student, Laura, has been shortlisted for the award from a long list of artists, makers and designers for her advances using laser technology on textiles.

Laura’s work combines material and sustainable innovation facilitated by digital technologies and craft approaches. Her most recent collaborative research at the University has been exploring laser techniques for textile surface design.

Her technique of laser-enhanced dyeing wool and wool-blend textiles and, the laser moulding of synthetics, offers short run production options reducing energy use, water and chemical effluent.

The recipient of the award will be announced on the 29th January in London.
