The Student Wordsmith’s debut publication

Loughborough graduate company The Student Wordsmith has published its first anthology – You is for University – a collection exploring university life.

The Student Wordsmith – launched by Loughborough PhD student and Studio tenant Sophie-Louise Hyde – is an online platform and social hub for budding creatives which provides writers with the chance to have their work featured online and in print.

The response to Sophie’s first national competition calling for submissions to the anthology was overwhelming – the collection comprises over 50 pieces of writing which offer a unique guide to the university experience.

The first limited edition of You is for University was launched at the end of January by the University’s unique student-led publishing house Lamplight Press – the only one of its kind in the UK – and sales have been brisk.

Over half of the initial print run – were sold during the first three weeks.

The second edition – which will include the development of both an e-book and audio collection – is scheduled for a summer release. Sophie hopes to secure crowd-funding to support the run.

Sophie said of her debut: “Seeing the book in print for the first time marked a moment of great achievement for The Student Wordsmith as an enterprise. The feedback has been phenomenal. Providing a platform for student and graduate creatives is a dream come true.”
