Loughborough University English and Drama students offer invitation to ‘Run’
Talented students from Loughborough University’s department of English and Drama are putting the finishing touches to a production they have created, and will perform, entirely themselves.
The students, all in their final year Bachelor of Arts course, have created Run as part of one of their final year modules - Theatre Practice.
Run follows the story of Rose, a young girl who feels she needs to escape the dangers that lie within the city, for the safer and calmer atmosphere of the country. But is she as safe as she thinks she is – and what does ‘safe’ mean anyway? It is a performance which incorporates themes and images, such as contrasting locations, found in William Shakespeare’s As You Like It.
During rehearsals the students have experimented with many aspects of performance, from conventional movement and spoken scenes to play, music and puppetry. Aside from acting-roles students have taken on all positions required for staging a full theatre production, including directors, choreographers, and backstage team. In addition students have been working on costumes and a set, whilst others have developed a brand and a promotional strategy.
Prof. Elaine Hobby from the department of English and Drama comments: “Our Drama degree course combines theory and practice and provides the students with a great deal of experience from which they can move on to a career in the performing arts. We hope there will be a good audience to see the results of the hard work of the students and, who knows, a theatre star of the future.”
Performances of Run will take place at 7.30pm on 22nd, 23rd and 24th January, in the Leonard Dixon Studio, Martin Hall, Loughborough University. Tickets cost £7 and £5 for concessions. For ticket information please contact the English and Drama department on 01509 222967 or H.L.Relf@lboro.ac.uk. Tickets can also be booked through www.lsu.co.uk/dramaproductions
