University presented with Seventh Queen’s Anniversary Prize

Loughborough University has today (27 February) been presented with a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education by Her Majesty The Queen at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. It is the seventh time the award has been bestowed on Loughborough – an achievement bettered only by the University of Oxford.
This latest award recognises Loughborough University’s impact through research and skills development in High Value Manufacturing (HVM) to create economic growth. Loughborough is an acknowledged leader in the field of HVM. Its renowned Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering makes an important contribution to the health of manufacturing in the UK, helping to support economic growth and create new jobs.
Over 500 national and international organisations work in partnership with the University on projects and ideas that enable the rapid development of better products, translating cutting-edge research into practical benefit.
Through its academic degree programmes and professional short courses, Loughborough also supplies industry with highly qualified and skilled engineers, who are crucial to the continued growth of HVM.
The official presentation was made to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Robert Allison.
“It was a great honour to be presented with this very prestigious award, which acknowledges Loughborough’s sustained contribution to High Value Manufacturing through our pioneering research and innovation and high-quality teaching,” said Professor Allison.

- Loughborough is one of the country’s leading universities, with an international reputation for research that matters, excellence in teaching, strong links with industry, and unrivalled achievement in sport and its underpinning academic disciplines.
It was awarded the coveted Sunday Times University of the Year title in 2008-09 and has been named Sports University of the Year 2013-14 by The Times and Sunday Times. Loughborough is consistently ranked in the top twenty of UK universities in the Times Higher Education’s ‘table of tables’ and has been voted England's Best Student Experience for six years running in the Times Higher Education league. In recognition of its contribution to the sector, Loughborough has been awarded seven Queen's Anniversary Prizes.
In 2015 the University will open an additional academic campus in London’s new innovation quarter. Loughborough University in London, based on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, will offer postgraduate and executive-level education, as well as research and enterprise opportunities.
