Loughborough expert contributes to national fresh water report

A Loughborough geographer has helped the research partnership Living With Environmental Change (LWEC) develop a report on the effect of climate change on fresh water in the UK.

The Water Climate Change Impacts Report Card provides a snapshot of how the UK’s water cycle – including rainfall, floods and droughts – is affected by climate variability and change. This has been written for anyone who works with or has an interest in water in the UK.

The report pulls together the knowledge of the country’s top water experts to help people understand the scale of past change and to help inform decisions about the way that water is managed in the future.

Hydroclimatic modelling expert Professor Rob Wilby wrote the technical report on future flood risk and contributed to the report on river water quality and ecology. He said:

“This document provides a valuable primer for anyone in the water sector who wants to know how the environment is changing and how it might change in the future.”

LWEC brings together UK public sector organisations that fund, carry out and use environmental research and observations. It aims to make sure decision-makers in government, business and society have the information, knowledge and methods they need to adapt to and where possible benefit from environmental change.

The water report card was developed with funding and practical input from Defra (the UK Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), the Environment Agency, LWEC and the Natural Environment Research Council.
