Artists and Designers showcase their talent

The degree shows from Loughborough University’s School of the Arts and Design School will be open to the public during June, providing the opportunity to view the stunning work of up and coming artists and designers.

The School of the Arts Finals Exhibition opens on Saturday 8 June and will feature the work of over 400 final year undergraduate and foundation students across a range of artistic disciplines including Fine Art, Textiles, 3D Design, Graphic Communication and Illustration. 

Among the work on display will be that of Fine Art student, Ian Tricker who was recently commissioned by Charnwood Borough Council to create a series of sculptures for display in Queen’s Park, Loughborough; Illustration student, Sasha Langford, who’s animation, ‘Marie’ won the British Film Institute Future Film Award for Best Documentary earlier this year and Printed Textiles student, Victoria Wright who will be moving to Ohio, USA after graduating to work for leading clothing manufacturer, Abercrombie & Fitch.

The show is open daily at the Edward Barnsley building and in the Loughborough Design School from 10am until 5pm and runs until Sunday 16 June.

Head of Department, Andrew Selby said: “The Finals Exhibition is an unmissable display of work by an exceptionally talented group of students.  The variety of work on display always amazes visitors. I am positive that anyone taking the time to visit will be truly impressed by our artists and designers.”

The Loughborough Design School degree show will include innovative products and prototypes created by more than 100 students.  It opens on Friday 14 June.  Highlights to look out for include Extinguish, a modern redesign of the fire extinguisher; Clipa, a self-heating food and drink flask for yacht racing; and the Grind, a portable all in one fresh coffee maker.

Professor Tracy Bhamra, Dean of the Design school said: “Yet again our final year students haven’t failed to impress, developing a wide range of ground-breaking products.  I would encourage everyone to come along to the show to meet some of the incredibly talented students we have at the Design School and their innovative products.”
