On July 3, the University welcomed the Olympic Torch onto campus on day 46 of its 8,000 mile trip around the UK.

The Olympic Torch relay will take 70 days to travel around the UK.

It started its journey in Land’s End on May 19 and will arrive at the Olympic Stadium for the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony on 27 July.

The torch will be carried by 8,000 inspirational people and the route will come within 10 miles of 95% of the people in the UK, the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey.

On July 3, the torch relay began at the Space Centre in Leicester, travelled by steam train on the Great Central Railway and arrived at the Epinal Way entrance of the Loughborough University campus.

You can follow the route of the torch when it came onto campus on our interactive map.
