Three in a row for Team GB women’s hockey squad
3 August 2012
Team GB’s women’s hockey team have recorded their third straight victory, moving within a point of qualifying for the semi-finals with a 3-0 win over Belgium at the Riverbank Arena.
Goals from Ashleigh Ball, Laura Bartlet, and Crista Cullen secured a hard-fought victory for the hosts against the Belgium side.
Great Britain now only require a point against China on Saturday to seal their spot in the last four and are on course to top Pool A.
The squad includes three former and current Loughborough Students’ hockey players – Hannah McLeod, Laura Unsworth and Nicola White.
Despite the win, Great Britain Head Coach and former Loughborough Students’ coach Danny Kerry indicated there is room for improvement.
“I’ve learnt through the years that it’s not going to be brilliant hockey all the time. Sometimes you just find a way to win. Belgium have probably been the fastest improving side in international hockey over the past couple of years under Pascal [Kina, Coach]. Their draw with China was testimony to that.”
