Olympic round up - day five
3 August 2012
Day five sees Caitlin McClatchey and Joanne Jackson help Team GB to fifth place in the 4 x 200m Freestyle relay.
For Caitlin it was her third Olympic final for the 200m Freestyle relay.
Fran Halsall qualified for the final of the 100m Freestyle, sixth fastest, in a time of 53.77. Loughborough team mate Amy Smith just missed out on the final.
A solid swim by Joe Roebuck, who made the men’s 200m Individual Medley semi finals, but his time of 1:59.57 was not quite good enough to qualify him for the final.
The Loughborough men’s hockey squad managed a 2-2 draw against South Africa in a tense and excitement-filled match. Team GB were 1-0 up at half time, but two goals from South Africa put them ahead. A late Ashely Jackson goal for Team GB ensured the draw.
Great Britain’s women’s Basketball team, containing former Loughborough student Julie Page, suffered a third consecutive London 2012 Group B defeat with a 67-61 loss to Russia.
Team GB’s women’s volleyball team could not match their historic victory recorded on Monday. The team went down 3-0 to Italy, who are ranked number four in the world.
