Loughborough University student Laurent Carnol has swam a lifetime best to secure a place on the Luxembourg Olympic team.
Laurent, who is studying Chemistry, had his fellow countrymen on their feet when he swam to a new national record and world leading time of 2:09.78 in the 200m Breaststroke at the 14th Luxembourg Euro Meet.
The time, a two second improvement on his lifetime best, saw him secure a berth on the Luxembourg Olympic team and become first Loughborough swimmer to win a place on the prestigious ‘London 2012 banner’ which will hang in the University’s ‘Pool of Dreams’.
Laurent, who was voted the male swimmer of the meet, also sprinted to a silver medal in the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1:02.17.
Speaking to the Luxembourg media, Laurent a 2008 Beijing Olympian, claimed that being based at Loughborough University was a major factor in his development. Laurent said:
“It has helped me a lot for my personality and sport. There's a squad of about 80 swimmers which trains together. It's much more fun training with so many people. It really pulls you along.” Read the full article at wort.lu.
