Athletes

Loughborough University has seen some of the finest athletes and sportspeople study and train on campus. Notable Olympians and Paralympians include gold medallists Sebastian Coe and Tanni Grey-Thompson.
- 48 of our athletes, past and present, competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games
- 19 reached finals, breaking 15 national and 2 European records, gaining a silver and bronze medal
- At the recent 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games 80 athletes competed, with 44 of them winning medals
- If the University was a country, it would have contributed to 33 distinct Commonwealth medals - the same number as South Africa and the 8th highest medal total in the overall table
This section focuses on our current athletes as they build up their preparations for the London 2012 Games. As we get nearer to the games, we’ll be adding more athlete profiles to the website. You can also get up to date coverage on our athletes by following us on Twitter.
