Learning and study spaces in the Library
Group learning space
The Library provides different spaces for various learning and study activities. On Level 3, which seats about 370, people can work in groups or individually and reasonable levels of noise are tolerated. There are 59 PCs and a further 27 in the two training rooms, available for individual working when the rooms are not being used for teaching information literacy or study skills. The whole Library is wireless-networked.
Cold food and drink can be consumed throughout Level 3 and mobile phones can be used. Café 641 (the Library's large and popular café) is part of Level 3.
There are also 7 bookable group study rooms distributed throughout the Library. These rooms are each equipped with a white board, a PC and a data projection unit. After booking a room please take up your booking within 15 minutes of the start time, rooms remaining empty after this time will be available to other users.
The University has a number of other areas suitable for group work, including wireless-networked spaces in the Edward Herbert Building and James France Building.
Individual study spaces for quiet study
It is also very important that the Library provides learning spaces that will support quiet, individual study. There are nearly 400 study spaces on Levels 1 and 2 where people work in silence. There are 40 PCs and 19 bookable individual study carrels. In order to preserve the quiet study environment, eating, drinking (except bottled water) and using mobile phones are not permitted anywhere on Levels 1 and 2.
