About Athens

Many electronic databases available to members of Loughborough University now use Athens usernames and passwords for authentication. Off-campus access to the majority of e-journals is also through Athens. The Athens system enables Loughborough University staff and students to have their own individual username and password. All databases which are authenticated by Athens can be accessed from anywhere within the UK.

Any enquiries relating to Athens should be addressed in the first instance to IT Services (tel. x2320) or the Library (tel. x2360).

Please note that users of Athens authenticated resources are expected to abide by the Athens Individual User Terms and Conditions.

Obtaining your Athens username/password

Athens usernames and initial passwords can be obtained from IT Services Information Desk or Information and Enquiries in the Library.

The usernames take the form of lbo followed by your normal AD username (e.g. a Geography staff member Jo Bloggs - gyjab - would be lbogyjab). Initial passwords are generated by IT Services and for security reasons these will be different to the initial password for your usual username.
