The School of the Arts, English and Drama is a thriving research community with a proven record for both creative and scholarly outputs of international excellence in the fields of the visual, literary and performative arts.
The School is committed to knowledge transfer and knowledge exchange projects and uses its research strengths to form links with the creative industries, developing the entrepreneurial side of our activities, and fostering a range of productive and effective knowledge transfer partnerships.
The School possesses state-of-the-art facilities which offer many creative opportunities. They provide industry-standard production possibilities and an unparalleled level of professional training. These include six superior creative art and design hubs, a 260-seat proscenium arch theatre, and a variety of other performance rehearsal and study spaces.
Our specialist researchers encompass a wide range of expertise, and the School achieved excellent results in the Research Excellence Framework 2014. Submitting to three different discipline panels, 71% of our research was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. The significance of our research can be seen not only through the 2014 REF results, but also through the impact it has on arts, culture and wider society as a whole.
