Anti-Virus Software

Introduction

Loughborough University has invested in McAfee VirusScan Enterprise as its standard Windows computer virus detection and prevention software. Sophos is currently provided for Macintosh computers.

The software may be installed by any member of the University, either staff or student. It may be installed on office computers and home computers. The software must be removed from home computers once a user ceases to be a member of the University. The Anti Virus software may be installed on computers running Windows 2000 professional (or server), Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista, or Macintosh OS 10.3.3 (or later).

This also provides the additional Anti Ad/Spyware module of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise free of charge to all staff and students.

Staff Desktop Service Users

University members who subscribe to IT Services' Staff Desktop Service will have the anti-virus software automatically installed on their office computer. No user action will be required.

Any other user: Staff or Students

If you do NOT use the Staff Desktop Service and would like to install the anti-virus software please complete the following steps:

Versions

Previously the version of McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise offered to Loughborough University staff and students was McAfee Virus Scan 8.5i.

This has now been updated to the latest offering from McAfee, which is Virus Scan Enterprise 8.7i. This also comes with the Enterprise Anti Spyware Module.

If you require any technical assistance after installation, please view the F.A.Q. web page at www.lboro.ac.uk/it/security/naifaq.html for common solutions or contact our Service Desk on  222333.

The current CD-ROM contains a virus definition downloaded 17th August 2009, therefore you must run Update Now... otherwise you are only protected from viruses created before that date.
