Charged Printing Service
Wide format (A0) printing
Introduction
Wide format printing is now provided by Design and Print Services in the Herbert Manzoni Building (opposite the EHB).
The Design and Print A0 printers are available from any IT Services lab computer, and can produce A0, A1, A2, or custom sized output (but nothing larger than A0). The printers are securely located and Design and Print staff will deliver printouts to the Service Desk in the Herbert Manzoni Building. Printouts cost £6.00 or £9.00 on "satin" paper.
Use Large Format A0 Plain Paper PS plain paper (A0 Plain on OS X), or Large Format A0 Photo Paper PS satin paper (A0 Photo on OS X) when printing.
There is also a professional poster service available through Design and Print Services, but it is more expensive, and must be paid for in cash at their reception desk.
We have Instructions for Windows:
Please avoid using Microsoft Word; if you have created a Microsoft Word document please save it as a PDF and print the PDF from Adobe Reader.
We have Instructions for OS X:
Please do not print posters from Adobe Acrobat on the Mac OS X partition as they do not scale no matter what settings you use. If you have an Adobe Acrobat PDF file, please print from Windows.
If it goes wrong:
Busy times
During busy times queues can become very long, and it may take more than a day for your printout to appear. We advise, particularly during these busy times, that you plan your work ahead, and start work on your project as early as possible.
-
Weeks 7, 11, and 12, Semester 1.
-
Weeks 1, and 11 to 13, Semester 2.
Typically, the A0 printers take around 15 minutes to process a print job. Queues of 50+ jobs are not uncommon, so any essential printing should be submitted a day in advance of when it is required. Please note that at one point there were enough queued jobs for 4 days continuous printing.
Refunds
To keep the costs to the barest minimum, we will have to be strict on refunds where user error has caused a problem. Refunds are only available when caused by a technical fault.
"Jumping the queue"
We will allow users to "Jump the Queue" if the printout has failed for technical reasons outside of the control of the user.
For example, when the printer runs out of paper and the print job is lost, you can "jump the queue".
If the print job is lost because you have no print credits, you can not "jump the queue". You can use the E-Payments System to check your print credits and maintain your queues from a web browser. Note that if you attempt to print with insufficient credits, you will receive an e-mail.
