International students

International Students Association

The International Students Association (ISA) is an organisation supporting international students at Loughborough University. It is run by a committee of students elected by ISA members annually.

What is the ISA?

ISA is a framework which provides the opportunity for overseas students to integrate and harmonise their culture with British society. We are here to address any problems or issues that overseas students may have concerning their lifestyle and studies in Loughborough. That is why every international student automatically becomes a member of ISA. ISA encourages you to make international friends and explore the cultural and geographical diversity on the planet EARTH.

What does the ISA give to new international students at Loughborough ?

The ISA provides the following to new international students:

  1. Formal representation within the University for international students
  2. Promote, advocate and advance the international students' rights, interests and privileges in the United Kingdom
  3. Programmes to support and serve the needs of international students
  4. Act as an “umbrella” organization for the international and multicultural student groups at Loughborough University
  5. Great social activities for international students so that they can meet people and make international friends
  6. Information on Loughborough and its surroundings like the things to see and do in Loughborough
  7. Activities for everyone, such as parties, sports, clubbing, barbeques and more.

What is the annual International Day at Loughborough University?

International Students Association (ISA) of Loughborough Students Union, annually organise INTERNATIONAL DAY, a mini world exhibition, where students from different countries present their culture at their country stalls. It is the biggest event organised in the Union for the international students.

On this day, the Students’ Union building is booked for the exhibition, which includes Cognito, Room 1, Piazza and Exhibition area. Each country has a student representative, who is responsible for his/her country stall. Every country stall is given equal space (size of two exam tables) and a location to present their culture. The student country representatives along with his/her colleagues work hard for over a month to gather materials for their stall. They present food, drinks, artefacts, music, souvenirs, PowerPoint presentations and many other features of their country.

The constant flow of visitors from the University and local community keep the exhibition area busy for the whole day. There is also a cultural show during which many groups of international students perform live on the stage. The International Fashion Show follows the cultural performances.

In the past many diplomats, the local Mayor, senior members of the local community, University Staff, media (press, radio and TV) have witnessed the day. We are proud to hold this event every year and we look forward to your support and feedback to make this annual event more and more successful in the years to come.

ISA social activities and UK visits

Some of the popular activities we provide are as follows:

Party

We all have two things in common: 1. We are all students, and 2. We all like parties. Therefore to fulfil our cause of having fun around the year we organise lots of parties. They are usually held more than once a month at the Students' Union, and we also go to pubs/cafes in the town centre for different experiences.

Trips

For the past few years, ISA has arranged many trips to the cities throughout the UK and abroad to help our international student get to know the United Kingdom and Europe. Our past trips have been a great success and we look forward to seeing you in the coming year. Previous destinations have included London, Edinburgh, Bath, and Cambridge in UK, and also Paris and Amsterdam. Before every trip we havea poll that will help you put forward your choice.

Sports

ISA arrange several sports in both the Autumn and Spring Semesters.

Barbeques

Held in the summer time, these receptions offer a relaxed atmosphere in which international students can come and meet friends in both the international and local communities. Also look for our BBQs in times of nice weather!
