Research experience for 7-9 year-olds - Recruiting now!

The aim of this project is to evaluate the effects of winter clothing on body thermoregulatory responses, and perception of thermal sensation, preference and comfort of children whilst exercising in a cold environment. The purpose is to determine what is the minimum and maximum temperatures 7 to 9 year-olds remain comfortably warm in whilst walking in winter clothing in cold environments.

We are looking for healthy male and female 7 – 9 year-olds who have NOT entered puberty.

What will they have to do?
Visit 1: Tour of the research centre, short chat about the study and if you wish to take part we would continue with a short walk-run on the treadmill.
Visits 2-5: Slow walking exercise in the cold wearing a full array of ski-wear clothing. Each visit lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours and these can take place after school and during weekends.

What will the get?

- Information about their height, weight, body composition analysis and fitness status
- They will get a fun, educational experience on how research is conducted at the Environmental Ergonomics Research Centre whilst learning a little about sport science
