Overton Poetry Prize opens for 2018 entries
The Overton Poetry Prize - an annual competition run by the University’s School of Arts, English and Drama - is now open for submissions.
The competition requires entrants to submit a sequence of poems on any subject, up to 300 lines.
It was established in memory of Professor Bill Overton (1946-2012), a respected English scholar and a former head of the department at Loughborough University.
Much of Professor Overton’s teaching and writing was on poetry, and the proceeds from the competition will fund an early career poet in residence; giving them the opportunity to undertake a residency and students the chance to work with an inspiring mentor.
The first placed entry will be published in chapbook form, with 100 copies published, 50 of which will be given to the winning poet.
Two further prizes of £50 book tokens will also be offered to runners-up in the competition.
The judges of the competition are Dr Kerry Featherstone, Lecturer in Creative Writing, and Carol Rowntree-Jones, Poet in Residence at the University.
All entries will be anonymised before being read by the judges, and can be submitted online or via post.
Online entries and payment of the submission fee (£12 per sequence of poetry) can be made via the University’s online store.

The competition will close on 20 December 2018, and the winner will be announced in February 2019.
