Loughborough University hosts successful Chapters Regional Conference

Loughborough University hosted the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Chapters Regional Conference 2018 at the West Park Teaching Hub earlier this month.

Taking place between 6-9 September, the ASHRAE Region XIV conference was led by the ASHRAE UK Midlands Chapter and brought together delegates, stakeholders, technical experts and decision makers from across Europe and the USA.

Over 120 people attended the conference, including sponsors and students. The event consisted of two days of technical sessions, an exhibition, tours of the University labs as well as a number of training workshops and networking opportunities.

Students from the MSc Low Energy Building Services Engineering programme presented their findings from a research dissertation project at the event alongside PhD students from the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering as well as industrial speakers.

Over 35 presentations were given by students from the University over the duration of the conference. The conference theme was ‘Build our new energy future’ and the students represented the high quality standards of the University through their presentations. The MSc students also attended training sessions, networked with high-level attendees and were invited to future leadership training. There was a great atmosphere throughout the Chapters Regional Conference and all European chapters interacted and exchanged expertise and ideas at the event.

Dr Mahroo Eftekhari, who is the course director of the MSc programme and also the elected general chair of the 2018 Chapters Regional Conference (CRC), was awarded a plaque of appreciation and honour for her support and leadership in organising this year’s event.

Speaking about the conference, Dr Eftekhari said:

“It has been a great pleasure and honour being the general chair of CRC and organising such an important conference.

“We are a new chapter and it is a great opportunity for us to showcase our student achievements and host experts from Europe and ASHRAE president and dignitaries here at Loughborough.

“The ASHRAE report has rated the CRC as excellent and a huge success. I’m very pleased to be awarded a leadership prize, it was a great experience.”
