How the University can support you – Mental Health Awareness Week 2018

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, the Health and Safety team are putting on a number of events at the University to raise awareness. Find out about the activities available on campus today (Thursday 17 May) by visiting the dedicated webpage.

The University has a number of services available to you if you feel you are suffering from stress or another mental health problem:

Employee Assistance Programme

The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is an initiative that is part of the University’s commitment to provide support for colleagues’ wellbeing as a response to issues highlighted in the 2016 staff survey.

The service is available 24–hours-a-day, and can be accessed online (using organisation code lborowell) or by ringing 0800 111 6387.

The service also now provides a range of counselling options for staff members who feel they may need additional support. Following an assessment, sessions can be face to face, on the telephone, or computer based. You can find out more information here.

Counselling and Disability Service

The Counselling Service is available to all students and members of staff and offers an opportunity to talk and reflect with a professionally trained person who is outside your immediate situation.

If you think you would benefit from seeing a counsellor, you can book an appointment online with our Staff Counselling service.

Centre for Faith and Spirituality

Chaplains are available for anyone, irrespective of their religious or spiritual background. The opportunity to talk to someone outside of the work environment can be really beneficial if you’re feeling stressed. Whether you want someone to listen or feel you need a quiet space, the Centre for Faith and Spirituality is a supportive service for both staff and students.

Loughborough Sport

Research has shown an active lifestyle can significantly improve both mental and physical wellbeing.

We have two state-of-the-art gyms on campus, Holywell and Powerbase. Loughborough Sport are running a new promotion for current gym members (staff members only) who can bring a friend for a free week’s trial. There’s also the opportunity to win a free year’s membership. For more information visit the Loughborough Sport website.

In addition, Loughborough Sport are running free bootcamp sessions on Tuesday mornings from 7am for all staff members and campus partners until the end of term.

To book your place, call the Holywell fitness centre on 01509 228800.
