Government extends childcare voucher scheme
The government originally announced that from 6 April 2018, Childcare Voucher schemes would close to new applicants. This has now been amended, with the Education Secretary confirming on 13 March 2018 that Childcare Voucher schemes will now remain open to new entrants for a further 6 months until October 2018 (exact date to be confirmed).
The University’s childcare voucher scheme, Computershare, will therefore remain open to new entrants until October 2018, meaning new employees/parents can continue to register for the scheme beyond 6 April.
The Childcare Voucher scheme is a government initiative that allows working parents to exchange a portion of their salary for vouchers before their usual tax and National Insurance (NI) contributions are taken. These vouchers are then used to pay a registered childcare provider and can be used to pay for both one-off and regular childcare arrangements.
