Outstanding Research Supervisor of the Year to feature in UKCGE webinar

Times Higher Education award winner Dr Matthew Inglis will be taking part in a UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE) webinar next week.

Dr Inglis, who is a Reader in the Mathematics Education Centre at Loughborough University, was named the 2017 Outstanding Research Supervisor of the Year.

He was given the Times Higher award in recognition of his contribution to the creation of an outstanding research environment to support doctoral students, as well as his work to inspire and challenge the doctoral students he supervises.

Next Thursday (12 April), Dr Inglis will be answering questions on his approach to research supervision as part of a 45-minute UKCGE webinar on outstanding supervisory practice.

He will also discuss how he teaches and supports doctoral candidates at Loughborough through their transition from students to independent researchers.

Dr Inglis commented: “I was surprised and delighted to win the Times Higher award. It was very nice to discover that my co-supervisors and I are perceived to have done a good job.

“Dr Stan Taylor, an expert on doctoral research and Vice-Chair of UKCGE’s Research Supervisors Network, will be hosting the webinar on Thursday and I am very much looking forward to meeting him and discussing different approaches to research supervision."
