Loughborough University students awarded Engineering Horizons Bursaries

Three Loughborough University students have been awarded the Engineering Horizons Bursaries from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Jessica Ridler and Jemima Barnes, both studying Product Design Engineering, and Mohsen Salimy, studying Electronic and Electrical Engineering, are three of 22 engineering or technology students who have been given the outstanding award.

The new IET’s Engineering Horizons Bursary offers long-term financial support to students and apprentices, providing each winner with at least £1,000 per academic year. Winners will also benefit from mentoring and work experience placements through the IET’s extensive networks.

Faye Banks, Chair of the Engineering Horizons Panel, said: “By encouraging apprentices and students who are passionate about engineering, we know the bursary will put them on a path that is not only challenging and rewarding, but also vital to the UK economy. It was a very competitive process and all winners should be rightly proud of their achievements.”

Professor Paul Conway, Dean of the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering, commented: “We are thrilled that three of our engineering students at Loughborough have been selected for this prestigious award in recognition of both their passion for the subject, and their potential as future leading engineers.”

Prospective students who are wishing to apply for an Engineering Horizons Bursary can apply online soon on the IET website
