Enterprising students celebrated at annual awards ceremony

Guests gathered in the Loughborough Students’ Union building for a showcase of student business ideas and entrepreneurial talent.

Celebrating inspiring individuals, club committees and aspiring entrepreneurs, the Awards recognise the enterprising successes of the past 12 months.

The Enterprising Star of the Year 2017 was awarded to Will Davies, Careers consultant at the School of the Arts, English and Drama for his ongoing support of LSU Enterprise, supporting events and organising the School of the Arts boot camp.

Enactus Loughborough retained the Most Enterprising Student Team or Group award after a successful year in which they received fourth place in the annual Enactus National competition – a new record for Loughborough.

Jake Brown and Harriet Eastham won Most Entrepreneurial Individual Undergraduate and Postgraduate of the Year.

The undergraduate winner, Jake, is the Vice Chair of Enactus Loughborough and also set up the Utilise Social Cafe.

Harriet, the postgraduate winner, was commended for her hard work and ambition in establishing a sport tech business as well as her involvement with enterprise at the University’s London campus.

Most Enterprising Hall Committee was awarded to John Philips, who raised £872.63 in this year’s £10 Hall Challenge by investing the initial funds into hair dye.

This year’s Inspiring Enterprise Student of the Year winner is Montez Blair, who formed his own committee at the London campus, working with the Vice-Chancellor to organise enterprise events.

The annual event also recognised the efforts of students and graduates who have developed innovative ventures and demonstrated excellent business skills and acumen through the Launch-it! competition.

Professor Tracy Bhamra, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Enterprise) said: "Enterprise is integrated in everything we do at Loughborough.

“It is an important part of the student experience, and the winners truly exemplify the exceptional talent in our growing group of student and graduate entrepreneurs.”
