Entries open for technology challenge

Loughborough University has teamed up with the electronics engineering community element14.com and ST Microelectronics to deliver the Internet of Things  On Wheels Design Challenge.

The challenge, officially launched on July 6, 2017 is open to engineers and hobbyists across the globe.

The focus of the challenge is around the use of vehicles in society. Those taking part are required to make specific use of sensors to make a vehicle better and smarter, whether it’s on one, two, three, or four wheels.

The challenge is open to all, though ten lucky sponsored challengers will receive the necessary technical equipment completely free.

The University’s Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering will provide judges for the output of the competition.

Teams submitting entries and blogging about their projects stand to win a range of prizes including an electric scooter and GoPro.

Loughborough PhD student Dr.Christian DeFeo is a driving force behind the creation of the challenge.  He is studying how online communities can drive innovation in contexts such as this competition.

Dr DeFeo comments:  “This is a great opportunity for students to be creative with technology in order to drive forward innovation.”

Interested students are encouraged to submit entries to the competition. The deadline is 13 November 2017.
