Loughborough retains European Commission award for its career development for researchers

Loughborough University is one of twelve UK institutions to retain the HR Excellence in Research Award from the European Commission following the sixth-year review, in recognition of its long-term commitment to career development for researchers.

The award is an important mechanism for implementing the principles of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, which was launched in 2008. Loughborough first received the award in 2010.

The Concordat defines the expectations and responsibilities of both funders and institutions with respect to the employment and management of research staff.  It contains seven key principles, covering many aspects including recruitment and selection of researchers, recognition of their contribution to research, support for their personal and career development, and promotion of diversity and equality.

Professor Steve Rothberg, Pro Vice Chancellor for Research at Loughborough, said: “As a top 10 research-intensive University, recruiting and developing world-class researchers is crucial to our continued success. Retaining this prestigious award is a clear mark of our commitment to this important issue.”
