New Geography building officially opened

The University’s new Geography building was officially opened last night.

Head of Department, Professor Stephen Rice, welcomed guests into the new building which is now located adjacent to the James France Building in Central Park.

The Geography building has undergone a £1.5 million transformation and houses state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories.

Member of Council and Finance Director at Campbell Scientific, Ann Greenwood conducted the official opening of the building.

Guests included the University’s Vice-Chancellor Robert Allison; Dean of Social, Political and Geographical Sciences, Professor Nick Clifford; Head of Research and Higher Education at the Royal Geography Society, Dr Catherine Souch and Chief Executive of the Geographical Association, Alan Kinder.

The event also marked the retirement of Professor of Physical Geography and outgoing Head of Department, Helen Rendell.
