University students complete Silverstone Cycling Time Trial

A team of students from the University were among 800 people to take part in the Silverstone Cycling Time Trial earlier this month.

Sam Roper, Tom Marsh, Harry Lock and Jamie Parnell made up the student team for Loughborough and finished the 25 mile time trial in 4th place, with a time of 1:00:25.

The challenge took place on the iconic Silverstone racetrack and offered participants the chance to cycle on one of the world’s best known tracks whilst raising funds for Operation Smile, an international medical charity which provides free surgeries to children in developing countries who are born with cleft lip, cleft palate or other facial deformities.

The team commented: "It's a great opportunity. You don't get many opportunities to ride around Silverstone, the whole experience has been very enjoyable and it’s all for a good cause.”

The event raised over £20,000 for the charity and Operation Smile. To find out more about Operation Smile and the work they undertake, please visit: www.operationsmile.org.
