Students invited to LU Arts Happy Mondays events

LU Arts Happy Mondays is back for another year with a range of exciting activities to get involved in.

The events are being run in collaboration with Loughborough Students’ Union every Monday from 7:30pm – 9:30pm for the next two months.

Kick-starting the events is a Glass Fusing Workshop for students tonight at Cognitos, Loughborough Students’ Union.

A pottery taster session for students is also running at Cognitos next week on 31 October.

On 7 November, students are invited to attend a green wood turning workshop with Peter Wood from ‘Greenwood Days’. Peter set up ‘Greenwood Days’ in 2000 and regularly runs workshops on traditional crafts.

Following this is an introduction to photography with award winning photographer and filmmaker Kajal Nisha Patel. Since 2005, Kajal has documented the British South Asian experience concentrating on issues around cultural conflict and bereavement. The workshop is running at Loughborough Students’ Union on 14 November, students are asked to bring their own SLR camera.

A night of live acoustic music at the Students’ Union is running on 21 November, emerging musicians are encouraged to perform alongside professional musicians.

In the run up to the festive season, a Christmas card workshop is available for students to get involved in. Participants will be introduced to the basics of block printing and use soft lino to create hand-made Christmas themed printed items. This session is running on 28 November at a slightly earlier time of 7pm – 9pm.

The final Happy Mondays event is LU Arts’ poetry performance night Speech Bubble on 5 December. Speech Bubble invites professional poets to perform alongside students and staff in an open mic slot. This year, poet Jess Green who has performed at Glastonbury, Bestival and the Edinburgh Fringe and Ash Dickinson who has performed across the world in the USA, Canada, New Zealand and more will be taking the stage.
