Loughborough University awarded for supporting Defence personnel

The University has been acknowledged for supporting Defence personnel and their families through the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

The Scheme recognises employers who have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, employ at least one member of the Armed Forces Community and actively communicates a positive attitude for employees who are members of the Reserve Forces.

An awards ceremony took place last week at Burleigh Court Hotel. The University joined ten other employers from across the East Midlands who also received the silver award. All recipients were presented with a certificate for demonstrating their commitment to the Ministry of Defence.

Rob Allan, HR Director, at Loughborough University, attended the event. He said: “Loughborough University is delighted to achieve this recognition for part of our wide range of involvement with the Armed Forces and we look forward to building further on this in the future.”

John Wilson, the MOD’s Regional Employer Engagement Director for the East Midlands, said: “It is important to recognise and reward employers who have shown both support and commitment to their reservist employees and the other members of the Armed Forces Community they employ.

“Demonstrating flexibility towards the training and mobilisation commitments of reservists, or by employing Cadet Force adult volunteers, veterans or military spouses, each of our award winners has shown they are committed to supporting the Armed Forces Community. The award event was a success with many of our attendees welcoming the opportunity to network with other regional employers who have similar policies and support procedures to themselves.”
