Loughborough graduate company win £20,000 in competition

Loughborough graduate company Snooks have won £20,000 in an enterprise competition.

Snooks, formed by Loughborough alumnus Susie Beere and Sophie Kelly, won the top prize in the Baldwins Accountants’ KickStart Young Entrepreneur Awards after impressing 500 business representatives with their business plans.

Born in The Studio, Susie and Sophie's business is the first British snowboarding and ski brand designed specifically for women. Snooks offer female riders well-fitting and uniquely designed outerwear that combines protection, freedom of movement and style.

The pair pitched their tailored ski jackets, t-shirts, trousers and beanie hats in front of businesses from across the Midlands region.

As part of the award win, Susie and Sophie will receive £10,000 for their business and £10,000 worth of mentoring and accounting advice from Baldwins Accountants.

Sophie said: “Winning the prize is more than just about the investment. It’s about the incredible belief and the support shown from Baldwins. Thank you to everyone that voted for us, it means such a lot.

“We’ve got a clear vision of where the business needs to be. In the next year we want to be stocked in British and European retailers.”
